FUNDACIÓN ORTEGA-MARAÑÓN (FOM)

Created to promote the legacy of two of the most influential Spanish intellectuals of the 20th century, the Fundación José Ortega y Gasset- Gregorio Marañón is a private, non-profit institution devoted to educational and cultural activities, debate and research.
Based in Madrid and Toledo and with direct presence in Mexico, Argentina, Colombia and Peru, since its foundation in 1978, the FOM has been widely recognized as a major player in the promotion of Social Sciences and Humanities across the Spanish and Latin American cultural sphere.
Under the honorary presidency of His Majesty King Juan Carlos I of Spain, and with a Board of Trustees that reunites some of the most distinguished personalities in Spain’s cultural, political, humanities, and business arenas, the FOM offers a unique platform for international students.

José Ortega y Gasset (1883-1955) is the most important philosopher of the 20th century and one of the most outstanding intellectuals on the European scene at the time. Along with the many topics he addressed and his many different ways of expression, he developed a true philosophical system, centered on the analysis of human life as a radical reality and the elaboration of a new concept of reason. A master of the contemporary Spanish essay and a school creator, Ortega put Spanish thinkers on the map during his time and he had a decisive influence in the Spanish-American world. He undertook multiple cultural enterprises, such as the Revista de Occidente (1923) and his numerous publications.

Gregorio Marañón (1887-1960) was a doctor, scientist, historian and humanist. His scientific and experimental work focused on the fight against infectious diseases and endocrinology, where he was a pioneer. His medical and humanistic treatments reached many different journals and were translated into numerous languages. He broadened his field of work into social and political issues by getting involved in the publication of articles about those topics without ever leaving his medical and research activities.
